Efter Jerusalem/After Jerusalem (2021)

Vid förra sekelskiftet reste Selma Lagerlöf och Sophie Elkan i Mellanöstern. Efter resan skrev Selma Lagerlöf romanen Jerusalem (1901-1902): hennes stora genombrott som internationell författare. Under flera års tid har vi rest i deras och romanens fotspår, från Dalälvens sluttningar till dagens Jerusalem – och tillbaka igen.
Resultatet blev flera parallella serier av lyriska texter och målningar där vi rör oss kring de mytiska, politiska och konstnärliga frågeställningar relationen mellan romanens dåtid och verklighetens nu väcker.
Boken rymmer också essäer av författaren och kulturjournalisten Ingrid Elam samt konstnären Sophie Tottie. Samtliga texter på både engelska och svenska.

At the turn of the last century Selma Lagerlöf took a long tripwith Sophie Elkan to the Middle East. Afterwards Selma Lagerlöf wrote the novel Jerusalem (1901-1902). During several years we travelled on the trail of both the novel and their journeys: from the rural areas along the Dal River valley to the contemporary city of Jerusalem.
The resulting parallel series of lyrical writings and paintings is an ongoing conversation on all the mythical, political and artistic issues provoked by the relationship between the novel’s past and our present reality.
Essays by writer an cultural journalist Ingrid Elam and artist Sophie Tottie complement and introduce our work. All texts are in both Swedish and English.
